Mohawk Trail Safe Homes Parent Network

2007-2008

The primary goal of Safe Homes is to build a communication network among parents of Mohawk students to foster a safe social environment for West County youth and to help reduce the use of alcohol and other drugs. As students enter Middle School and High School, it is common for parents in a large rural school district like ours not to know their children’s friends and their families well.  By signing the Safe Homes pledge, parents are letting other West County families know that they intend to supervise social gatherings in their homes that are alcohol and drug free.

During the 2007-2008 school year, more than 64% of Mohawk families signed the Safe Homes pledge.

This year's 64% participation rate is excellent! Participating parents and community supporters are listed in the Safe Homes Resource Guide, which was published in December 2007. Next year, we hope to increase participation to over 75% of Mohawk families, as we continue to seek support pledges from others in the community. We encourage parents and community members not currently in this year's guide to be listed in the 2007-2008 edition. Together we can make our community a safe place for everyone.

Parents can make a huge difference. What parents teach their children now will stay with them forever.

Safe Homes networks exist all over the United States. For more information, please check out Safe Homes, or eccpasa.info/safehomes.htm, or call the Community Coalition for Teens at 774-1194. If you can't view the guide or pledge, download a free copy of Adobe Reader at Adobe's web site
